Renton woman thanks first responders who saved her life

So far this year, house fires have killed 11 people in Washington State, according to Rick Marshall, chief of the Renton Regional Fire Authority. Thankfully, Kathy Grainger wasn't one of them. She was asleep in bed in February when her smoke alarm woke her up. "It's overwhelming," she said. "I was traumatized that night.

Calm in the chaos: It’s always rush hour for Seattle firefighters and paramedics

She was blue when her neighbor found her at lunchtime, unconscious and slumped in an overstuffed leather chair. Minutes later, her studio apartment is crammed with people in uniform who have been summoned to save her. Getting there after the 911 call had been excruciating, even with light afternoon traffic: an 11-block drive with sirens wailing, followed by a cramped ride in a slim elevator that crept slowly toward the ninth floor, as if powered by AAA batteries.

29 Mar 2017 Investing in Risk Management - Benton County FPD #1 3/29/2017 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
The Washington Fire Chiefs and Enduris have joined together to offer a unique training opportunity. It is estimated that over $2.6 billion will be spent by insurance companies resulting from accidents and injuries that occur in the fire service for 2016 alone! And, for every dollar an insurance company spends on these claims, fire departments will have an additional $4 in hidden costs. Good risk management practices are a long-term strategy for financial protection.

In these sessions, participants will learn how to identify the various exposures associated with
financial loss most common to the fire service. We will discuss issues that keep many fire service leaders up at night such as lawsuits involving harassment, discrimination, poor ethics, lack of management oversight, embezzlement, and more. Participants will learn simple processes that can be put in place to mitigate these risks.

Materials & lunch will be provided.

26 Apr 2017 Teambuilding & Leadership with DISC Workshop - Wenatchee, WA 4/26/2017 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM

What's your current focus with your team?  How can you improve them, both individually and in group, in order to achieve maximum effectiveness and potential?  Do you want to grow them?  Are you forming a new team?

To respond to these and related questions, we have been using DiSC© to help us understand group functioning.  DiSC© is a validated behavioral inventory of our preferences.  It is NOT a personality assessment; the focus is on what people do (behavior), not what their underlying personality characteristics are.

In these workshops, we will use this concept to help people improve their leadership capabilities by focusing on individual and team behavior.
