Benton County Fire District #1 (BCFD#1) is seeking candidates for one Mechanic/Firefighter Position. The Mechanic/Firefighter assists the Maintenance Supervisor in performing repairs and maintenance of all District vehicles, maintaining all documentation and scheduling in order to manage the District’s fleet. The Mechanic/Firefighter currently performs firefighting and EMS duties and the selected candidate will be required to meet the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) language for a firefighter within the first 24 months of employment. 

 BCFD#1 is a fire and emergency service provider serving nearly 18,500 citizens in a 320 square mile area of South East Benton County, including small unincorporated areas within the cities of Kennewick and Richland. BCFD#1 is a combination department with 13 employees and 80 volunteers, responding to more than 1,300 calls each year. The District operates out of an administration office, a maintenance facility, and responds from six fire stations, two of which are staffed 24 hours per day. The District provides Basic Life Support (BLS) service along with fire suppression, water rescue, fire prevention, inspections, and public education. 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  Must be able to read and write the English language. 

 Must be a high school graduate or have an equivalent GED certificate. 

 Must live within 15 minutes of geographic boundaries of the Fire District. 

 Must have ASE Certifications; Medium/Heavy Duty Truck. 

 Must have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience of general auto and diesel truck repair. 

 Must possess a valid driver’s license for at least three (3) years at the time of appointment. 

 Must be able to perform mental and physical tasks pursuant to essential functions of the position. 

 Must pass District’s physical agility test, be in excellent health and free from any Medical or physical conditions which would prevent the performance of essential job functions. 

 Pass a background investigation, DMV check, and medical examination (Physical Fitness Level of Arduous), including drug test, prior to hiring. 

 Must have basic computer skills. 

 No Felony convictions. 

 No Smoking. 

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

 International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) Firefighter I Certification. 

 International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) Hazmat Operations Certification. 

 Nationally Registered Washington State Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). 

 Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Certification. 

 Washington State Commercial Driver’s License – Class B. 

 Heavy Equipment Operator. 

 NWCG Qualified Firefighter II, NFPA 1051.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AT 24 MONTHS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

 International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) Firefighter I Certification. 

 International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) Hazmat Operations Certification. 

 Nationally Registered Washington State Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). 

 Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Certification. 

 Washington State Commercial Driver’s License – Class B. 


EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION: 

 Mechanic/Firefighter is a member of the International Association of Firefighters Local 4362, Benton Fire District #1 Union. 

 Salary Range is $5,640 to $6,204 per month (Step 5, Grade 1 of CBA) 

 Work Schedule as outlined in the CBA.  

 Washington State LEOFF 2 Retirement System.
