Boyce named Firefighter of the Year by Puget Sound Fire

Aaron Boyce, a former standout football and basketball player at Kentwood High School, has been named the 2019 Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority Firefighter of the Year. Boyce was one of several employees honored at the Puget Sound Fire virtual awards presentation on Oct. 16. The ceremony typically is held earlier in the year but COVID-19 postponed the event and caused it to be presented in a virtual format.

6 adults, 1 child displaced after fire damages four-plex in Hazel Dell

Crews battled a "stubborn fire" at a four-plex in the Hazel Dell area early Friday morning. At around 2:30 a.m., firefighters with Clark County Fire District 6 and Vancouver Fire were called out to a fire in the 6200 block of Northeast 11th Avenue. When firefighters arrived to the scene, the fire had spread from one of the units to the attic.

Washington to become second state to adopt wildfire smoke worker safety rules

Construction, agricultural, and other outdoor workers braved the grey smog that choked most of Washington state last month. It was so bad, that its prompted Washington’s Labor and Industries division to craft rules that protect workers from wildfire smoke. This week, L&I filed the official notification, known as CR-101, the first step in the rulemaking process.
