Seattle Fire Department Will Observe Fire Day On June 6

We are happy to announce that one of our biggest summer events, Seattle Fire Day with MOHAI, is still happening … on the Seattle Fire Facebook page. This year, also for the first time, we will feature real-time programming in Spanish! Thanks to a long-standing partnership with MOHAI, every year, Seattle Fire marks the anniversary of the Great Seattle Fire of 1889.

Man dies after falling off cliff in Cle Elum

A Bellevue man died after falling off a cliff in Cle Elum Wednesday morning. The Kittitas County Sheriff's Office said 60-year-old Manuel Vellon was sightseeing at Peoh Point Lookout when he slipped and fell off a ridge crest. Vellon was found gravely injured about 400 yards down the embankment. Life-saving measures were attempted with help from Kittitas County Fire District 7 and Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue personnel, but Vellon's injuries were too severe and he passed away before he could be transported to a hospital.

City of Chehalis Struggles to Find Emergency Fire Station Location

The City of Chehalis is still looking for a location for an emergency fire station and has until July 5 to move out of Lewis County Fire District 6’s fire station after LCFD6 terminated the interlocal fire station sharing agreement. The City of Chehalis has been in the process of finding a new fire station since the old fire station was deemed unsafe after asbestos was found and the Chehalis firefighters moved into LCFD6 station in August of 2018.

Barefoot hiker rescued from Butte Pinnacle above Wenatchee

Hiking or climbing barefoot may not be the best idea if you’re trying to enjoy the outdoors. A local man learned that the hard way after getting stuck atop a pinnacle just west of Wenatchee near Saddle Rock on Monday. At about 2:23 in the afternoon, a call came in about a hiker who was stranded on Butte Pinnacle.

South Pierce's New Fire Chief Brings Lifetime of Experience to New Post

Todd Wernet, a longtime firefighter with deep roots in Kitsap County, was named earlier this month as the new fire chief of South Pierce Fire and Rescue. He replaces former chief Lloyd Galey, who reportedly took a position with the Washington State Fire Training Academy in North Bend. A second-generation firefighter, Wernet has been on the job for about three weeks now and is looking to deepen the trust the station has with its community and district.
