Ohio Fire Departments Receive $32,000 in Wildfire Equipment

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry is providing $95,000 of wildfire equipment to rural fire departments, reports wfmj.com

Twenty-four rural departments were provided with equipment. The departments were selected through the Volunteer Fire Assistance Summer 2019 Wildland Fire Personal Protective Equipment and Wildland Fire Tools competitive grant program.

Orange County Approves Funds for Aircraft to Monitor Wildfires

Orange County Board of Supervisors accepted a $4.5-million state grant that will fund a 150-day pilot program for a fixed-wing aircraft that will monitor area wildfires, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Firefighters will have access to video and images shot by the aircraft’s infrared cameras within five minutes of its arrival over a site.

Images obtained by the aircraft will inform the data-based computer models developed by the WIFIRE Lab at UC San Diego.

Zearing (NE) Debuts New Pumper Fire Apparatus

At a cost of $278,000, the Zearing Fire Department has a new 2020 Freightliner Pumper truck to replace an older 2009 pumper, reports Nebraska City News-Press.

The new truck arrived in Zearing on Aug. 8, straight from the Toyne Fire Apparatus company in Breda.

The 20 volunteer firefighters in the Zearing Department are very excited about the new pumper.

Flushing (MI) Selling Fire Apparatus to City of Grand Blanc

Flushing Fire Department has been given approval to sell a fire truck to the City of Grand Blanc, reports Grand Blanc View.

The fire chief reports that Engine 12 hadn’t seen much use in recent years and will be sold for $48,000.

Grand Blanc City Manager Wendy Jean-Buhrer said Engine 12 will be a valuable addition to the new Grand Blanc City Fire Department.

Reliant Fire Apparatus Marks 25th Anniversary with Opening of New Service Center

APPLETON, Wis. (August 15, 2019) – Pierce Manufacturing Inc., an Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK) company, announced today that Reliant Fire Apparatus, the exclusive Pierce dealer for southern Wisconsin and Iowa, is commemorating the company’s 25th anniversary in business with the grand opening of its new 10,000 square foot service center. Developed as an extension of Reliant Fire Apparatus’ headquarters, the service center is easily accessed from the greater Milwaukee or Madison areas in Slinger, Wisconsin. In addition to preventive maintenance and major repair work for apparatus of all sizes, the new service center will act as a hub for a fleet of two mobile service units, one mobile trailer for maintenance, and one mobile pump test trailer.

Services performed at Reliant Fire Apparatus’ service center include:

 

·         24-hour, seven-days-a-week emergency service available

·         Pump maintenance, repair, testing, and overhaul

·         Aerial inspection, maintenance, and repair

·         DOT inspections and preventative routine maintenance

·         Specialty tooling and testing for industry-specific components

·         Recorded maintenance history on all vehicles utilizing the latest software and technology

Reliant Fire Apparatus’ new service center can accommodate up to six trucks in a climate-controlled environment. The service center’s innovative configuration allows technicians to perform service in multiple bays through the use of portable devices such as wireless lifts, metered compressed fluid dispensing tanks, and placement of compressed air and electrical connections.

The addition of mobile service units will allow Reliant Fire Apparatus service technicians to quickly and efficiently perform repairs in locations most convenient for the departments they serve. Technicians for each mobile unit will have access to a dedicated inventory of parts and tools, as well as the ability to access all online records, service history, and troubleshooting information specific to vehicles.
