Helicopter crashes in Winthrop

Okanogan County Fire District 6 says a helicopter toppled after landing on a snow bank in Winthrop on Saturday. Fire officials say the wreck happened near an ice rink. Okanogan County Sheriff Tony Hawley says mechanical problems forced the helicopter to descend onto the ground. Authorities say pilot and the passenger were not hurt; there were no fuel leaks.

Walla Walla officer, firefighter save suicidal man

Walla Walla police and the fire department successfully rescued a suicidal man Saturday morning, a news release said. At about 11 a.m., officers responded to a call regarding a suicidal subject who threatened to hang himself, the release said. According to family members, the man had already left the house.

Vancouver crews extinguish fire on roof of Shanahan’s Pub & Grill

Firefighters responded Saturday afternoon to Shanahan’s Pub & Grill in downtown Vancouver to extinguish a fire on the roof of the restaurant, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian. On its Facebook page, Shanahan’s said someone intentionally set fire to the roof after climbing onto a neighboring business’s roof.

Update: 4-year-old boy dies from injuries sustained in Spokane house fire

A 4-year-old boy has died from injuries he suffered in a house fire earlier this week. Michael LeRoy Kane II passed away late Tuesday night and had been in critical condition at the hospital since Sunday. Six people were inside the home near Illinois and Morton when it caught fire. Fire officials said the fire was accidental and caused by having a combustible item too close to a fireplace.

Two units destroyed in two-alarm apartment fire in Woodland

Firefighters with Clark County Fire and Rescue say a two-alarm fire destroyed two units, and damaged two others at a complex in Woodland Thursday night. The first call came in around 5:00 p.m. on a report of smoke coming from one of the units at the Woodlands Heritage Apartments along North Goerig Street.
