Longview Fire Department welcomes first-ever female firefighter

24-year-old Chelsey Miller is making history. Monday afternoon, she was officially sworn in as the first female firefighter with the Longview, Washington fire department. “I’m excited to be the first female here and I hope to make everybody proud and succeed and show that other girls can do this job too and it’s not just a man’s job,” Miller said.

80 employees evacuate safely from Spokane Valley cannabis facility fire

Firefighters responded to a fire in a Spokane Valley cannabis facility Saturday evening. Workers at Grow Op Farms, in the 2600 block of North Woodruff Road, found heavy black smoke coming out of a marijuana grow room. When firefighters arrived, there was no visible smoke or flames coming from the building.

Shed fire forces road closure in Benton City

A shed fire forces a blockade of Snow Lane in Benton City overnight. The Benton County Sheriff's Office shared these pictures, above, of Benton City firefighters at work on the blaze on Sunday. The road was blocked off for hours as firefighters got the fire under control. KAPP-KVEW has reached out to officials to learn more about the cause of the fire.

Firefighter killed, several injured in Maine explosion, officials say

VIDEO: A firefighter has been killed in an explosion at a building on Route 2 in Farmington Monday morning, a member of the board of selectmen said. H. Scott Landry told WMTW News 8 that an unnamed firefighter was killed and six others were taken to hospitals. The injured include five firefighters and one civilian, Landry said.

Florida fire captain seriously injured in engine crash on I-10

A veteran captain with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department was seriously injured Sunday morning when the fire engine he was driving crashed and overturned on Interstate 10 near Lenox Avenue, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said the truck was heading east about 9 a.m. when the driver lost control of the truck, which caused it to veer off the highway and hit the guardrail, going through it and onto the grass shoulder, where it flipped on its side.
