SALARY: $97,479 – 107,471 DOQ (FLSA exempt position) 

WORK HOURS: Regular business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., in addition to evening and weekend training, meetings, and response coverage. 

NATURE OF WORK: 

The Battalion Chief, Training Officer/Health and Safety Officer is a proactive supervisory staff position responsible for assuring proper daily maintenance and operational readiness of apparatus, equipment, facilities and personnel; as well as developing, managing, and delivering training; and developing and managing the health & safety functions of the agency. In addition, the position is required to supervise EMS and suppression activities, as well as serve as Chief on Call on a rotation basis. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:     

1. High school diploma or equivalent 

2. At least 21 years of age 

3. Associates Degree in Fire Science Technology, or Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is acceptable, AND verifiable five (5) years minimum as a Lieutenant, Captain, or higher in a fire service agency with emphasis on training and safety. 

4. NFA Managing Fire Officer, or enrollment within the first year 

5. Washington State EMT-B certification. 

6. Obtain and maintain Thurston County Medic One Protocol within 90 days of hire. 

7. IFSAC Firefighter I certification. 

8. IFSAC Firefighter II certification 

9. IFSAC Evaluator 

10. IFSAC Fire Officer II 

11. NFPA Leadership I, II, III certification, or equivalent current NFA Leadership Series. 

12. Instructor I certification. 

13. Incident Safety Officer 

14. Blue Card Instructor within 1 year of hire 

15. NWCG Single Resource Boss within 2 years of hire

16. Must be able to pass a criminal, financial, and driver’s license background check. 

17. Possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license. 18. Driving record consistent with requirements of district insurance carrier. 

19. Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.

20. Is physically fit, and motivated to maintain the condition.

21. Demonstrated leadership by having prepared and instructed classes.

22. Demonstrated leadership by having acted as scene commander.

23. Has strong people skills, is self-motivated, and is capable of advancing the goals of the district while contributing to a positive, productive work environment.

24. Exhibits good management skills and possesses the ability to successfully coordinate and work with others.

7. Successful applicants may expect to participate in a pre-submission writing assignment; a written test, an assessment lab, a District physical agility test, and a Chief interview to be held on March 25, 2020. Successful candidates in the testing process will be expected to participate in a background check, a District physical exam including drug test.
