Washington Fire Chiefs (WFC) Membership,
This past week I informed the WFC Board of my intent to step down (retire) as your Executive Director at the end of 2024. This December will complete my 40th year in the fire service with the past 4 ½ serving as the Executive Director of the WFC. I believe it is time for me to focus on my family and use my time to benefit them at a more involved level.
As an association these past four years, we have made it through the Pandemic, financial restructuring, and updated business operations. We have also achieved an increased legislative effectiveness in conjunction with our states fire service partners working together in Olympia. The WFC is currently stable, and the future is bright with many newly seated Board members ready to serve. They will be working through a strategic planning process this winter establishing the goals and direction for the association for the next five-year period.
Having been involved with countless fire agencies and their leadership the past 14 years as a WFC Board member, President and Executive Director I am confident that there will be qualified members interested and ready to fill the position of Executive Director beginning in 2025. The Board will be conducting a search for my replacement over the next few months, allowing me time for a pass-down of information to the selection they make.
I want to thank each of you for allowing me to serve in the WFC these past years, it was an honor to have worked with all of you.
Respectfully,
Steve Wright, EFO, CFOD
Executive Director
Washington Fire Chiefs
