Open Position for the Executive Director of the Washington Fire Chiefs Association

The Washington Fire Chiefs Association is seeking a motivated individual to serve as Executive Director for this non-profit, professional association. 

 

Hours: Permanent Part Time, 24 Hours a week 
Pay: Up to $95,000.00/ Year DOQ
Benefits:  Healthcare Stipend, PTO and others noted within the employment agreement

Deadline: October 10, 2024, notice of intent to apply, (job packet to be sent on the 10th)

Starting date:  January 1, 2025, however, the WFC Board is flexible depending on candidate availability

 

Applicants must have served as a Chief Fire Officer, be knowledgeable about Washington State law, have an established reputation of collaborative leadership in the Washington fire service where relationships, action, and proficiency are a focus.   A successful candidate will demonstrate a history of political acumen, strong business skills, exceptional written and verbal communication skills, ethical decision making and standards, strategic thinking and planning skills, successful leadership, and management of multiple projects at the same time.  

The Executive Director Position responsibilities: 
  • Plan, attend, and facilitate all WFC Board of Director & Executive Committee Meetings. 
  • Oversee and support WFC Section events & conferences. 
  • Oversee and coordinate WFC committee activities. 
  • Ensure all decisions of the Board of Directors are implemented in the spirit intended. 
  • Ensure that all WFC records, documents, and property are maintained in accordance with state law and best management practices.  
  • Ensure by-laws, policies and procedures are practical, known, and current. 
  • Oversee and ensure that all WFC finances are managed in accordance with state law and best management practices and maintain records, checkbooks, statements, arrange for bookkeeping oversite, audits, and timely tax filings. 
  • Oversee the budget development, management and savings goals at the direction of the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors.  
  • Overseeing planning, organization, and execution of all association conferences, official functions, and events including facilities, meals, presenters, marketing, and accounting to ensure a positive and profitable event. 
  • Plan and disseminate all communications as authorized by the Board of Directors, including newsletters, directories, news releases, general correspondence, and event promotion. 
  • Perform as a registered lobbyist for the association, and attend and facilitate legislative committee meetings, monitor all fire service legislation, and maintain excellent working relationships with other agencies or associations regarding their legislative efforts that are likely to impact the fire service. 
  • Oversee and coordinate staffing of the WFC Office to ensure that staff is available between the hours of 8am-5pm Monday through Thursday except for official holidays. 
  • Oversee membership marketing, retention, and recruitment to maintain and build association membership. 
  • Maintain a quality work environment for WFC staff. 
  • Act as liaison and foster partnerships with key organizations outlined in the association's strategic plan. 
  • Ensure a complete report of activities is delivered at each official meeting of the Board of
  • Directors and the annual business meeting. 
  • Perform other duties as delegated by the Association President, Executive Committee, or the Board of Directors.  

About the Washington Fire Chiefs: 
Our mission is “Providing leadership through service, education and advocacy.” The WFC is a non-profit professional association which serves the fire chiefs and greater Fire Service in Washington State.  We have over 4000 members and represent over 350 fire agencies.
