Located in the East Valley of Yakima County in central Washington, Yakima County Fire District #4, also known as the East Valley Fire Department (EVFD), is headquartered near the City of Moxee. Moxee, (pop. 3,700), is roughly eight miles east of downtown Yakima, a city of over 93,800. Yakima County has been the cultural, business, educational, and governmental focal point of the region since it was founded more than 125 years ago. The area offers beautiful weather, year-round outdoor recreational activities, a low cost of living, and is also home to more than 70 wineries, producing some of the highest rated wines in the world.
 
The East Valley Fire Department serves the residents of Terrace Heights, Moxee and all the area east of the Yakima River from ridge-top to ridge-top. The district is comprised of 3 stations covering fire response encompassing 23,000 citizens in an area of 125 square miles. In 2021, EVFD responded to 1,601 calls for service with 1,056 being EMS and the remaining 545 being non-EMS and fire-based incidents.
 
EVFD operates on a combined (Fire & EMS) 2022 annual budget of $3,257,540. The district is staffed with 17 full-time employees, including the Fire Chief, 3 Shift Captains, 3 Shift Lieutenants, 9 firefighters and one District Secretary. In addition, EVFD has 9 highly competent volunteer firefighters that supplement the shift response. Stations 40 and 42 have 3 shifts that work 48 hours on and 96 hours off.
 
The Deputy Chief of Operations/Training, an exempt non-bargaining position, will work under the direction of the Fire Chief and function as the fire district’s second in command. This position will work four ten-hour days per week, performing a variety of technical, administrative, supervisory, and hands-on work in planning, organizing, training, fire prevention, fire suppression, and emergency medical services. This position has a high potential for future advancement within the fire district’s succession plan.
 
A bachelor’s degree or associate degree in Fire Science, Public Administration, or a closely related field preferred; and ten (10) years of firefighting experience with three (3) years at the company officer level or higher; or any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position.
