Assistant Fire Chief - Support Services
Under the direction of the Fire Chief, the Assistant Fire Chief – Support Services plans, organizes, directs, and controls assigned support activities of the fire department. The Assistant Fire Chief – Support Services commands three divisions: training, fire prevention and administrative services. Assumes the responsibility of “Acting Fire Chief” in the absence of the Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chief - Operations.
 
The Assistant Fire Chief – Support Services serves as a member of the management team, may participate in labor negotiations, and assists the Civil Service Secretary/Chief Examiner with recruitment and selection activities. The Assistant Fire Chief – Support Services may take command of operational personnel at the scene of any incident or emergency. The Assistant Fire Chief – Support Services reports to the Fire Chief who reviews work through discussion and reports of the status and results of program activities as well as any goals and objectives.
 
The Assistant Fire Chief – Support Services is primarily responsible for managerial and administrative work of all support service functions (training, fire prevention and administration), as well as administrative functions that support operations. The Assistant Fire Chief – Support Services normally directs the day-to-day activities of the Fire Marshal, Deputy Fire Marshal, Administrative Assistant and Administrative Specialist. Serves as the Operations Assistant Chief in his/her absence.

Salary and Benefits
  • Salary range: $7,998 – 9,722 monthly

Requirements Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must possess IFSAC or ProBoard Fire Officer 2 and Fire Instructor 2 certification, or be able to obtain within one year of employment.
  • Must possess an instructor certification in Emergency Vehicle Incident Prevention, or be able to obtain within six months of employment.
  • Must be a Washington State Emergency Medical Technician, or be able to obtain reciprocity within six months of employment
  • Must possess a Health and Safety Officer training/certification, or be able to obtain within one year of employment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.
  • NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800 or be able to complete within 1 year of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree, received from an accredited college/university, in Fire Science, Public Administration, Business Administration or other related field.
  • Graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer program; or Graduate of the International Fire Chief Association’s Fire Service Executive Development Institute; or other applicable Executive Fire Officer program.
  • International Society of Fire Service Instructor Training Officer Credential
  • Center for Public Safety Excellence Chief Training Officer Designation
