Nestled in the foothills of Mount Rainier, Graham is a recreational gateway located in Pierce County, Washington. Being only minutes away, Graham offers residents and visitors fabulous views of Mount Rainier and is just an hour drive from Seattle, 15 minutes from Tacoma, and provides residents with the amenities of city living in the backdrop of a picturesque rural community. Historically, Graham has been characterized as rural and agricultural in nature, and many farms, both hobby and commercial, still operate in the region today. One of the biggest annual events in Graham is the Pierce County Fair.
Graham Fire & Rescue is a combination department governed by a five-member board of elected commissioners. Graham Fire & Rescue operates out of five staffed fire stations and one volunteer station and serves nearly 71,100 residents over 70 square miles of southern unincorporated Pierce County.
Reporting to the Fire Chief, the Human Resources Director develops and executes human resources operations in support of the overall strategic direction of the district, including the areas of labor relations, employee relations, policy management, recruitment management, talent management, change management, employment risk management, DEI, organizational design, compliance with State and Federal labor laws, HRIS implementation and analysis, job classification, and compensation analysis. In addition, this position provides strategic leadership by articulating Human Resources needs and plans to the Fire Chief, Senior Management Team, and District Members.
Education & Experience: A bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field or equivalent. A minimum of ten (10) years of Human Resources experience, or an equivalent that would provide the necessary level of knowledge and ability for this position. Benefit administration and public sector experience preferred. Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) Certified Professional or Senior Certified Professional preferred. A
master’s degree in human resources, business management, or law is preferred.
