Lacey Fire District 3 is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Chief, Community Risk Reduction.  If you have experience and a passion in Fire Inspections, Fire Investigations, Community Engagement activities and want to make a positive contribution to the Lacey Community, then this is the job for you!
The Assistant Chief of Community Risk Reduction reports to the Deputy Chief of Administration. This is a union, FLSA 7K-exempt position. This position is a forty-hour per week union-represented position.

Minimum qualifications:
  • Lieutenant or higher-ranking officer.
  • Associate’s degree is preferred or a combination of experience, education, and training that would provide the level of knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Experience in fire prevention, code enforcement and fire investigations.
  • International Fire Code Inspector within 18 months of appointment.
  • ICS/NIMS 100, 200, 300, 700 certifications.  ICS/NIMS 400 and 800 are desired.
  • Extensive knowledge of modern prevention, investigation and inspection principles, procedures, techniques and equipment. 
  • Extensive knowledge of building and fire codes. 
  • Working knowledge of fire detection and suppression systems and equipment.
  • Ability to effectively apply standard prevention techniques and to act effectively in emergency and stressful situations. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. 
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, partners and the general public.
  • Ability to stay up-to-date on new techniques and information impacting Division goals and activities.
  • Ability to provide leadership and guidance to assigned staff. 
  • Demonstrates and exemplifies “The LFD3 Way”. 

Additional Requirements:

Candidate/Incumbent must maintain a Washington State EMT certification; possess or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire any U.S. state or District of Columbia driver’s license, and maintain such license for the duration of employment; must possess and maintain Emergency Vehicle Incident Prevention (EVIP) or equivalent certification; must maintain fitness and qualifications for respirator use; must comply with labor contract provisions.

Wages and Benefits:

$12,394 (step 1) - $12,871 (step 5) per month DOE (compensation study underway- anticipated update Jan 2025)
