We are now accepting applications for entry-level candidates who are interested in joining our team as a Firefighter/EMT. This recruitment may be used to fill firefighter vacancies for up to two (2) years.
Pierce County, Washington fire districts have a long, successful history of working together to better serve our communities. In that spirit, Central Pierce Fire & Rescue (CPFR), Graham Fire & Rescue (GFR), and Orting Valley Fire & Rescue (OVFR) — are exploring a merger to enhance service delivery.  This recruitment is intended to fill the staffing needs of these three organizations as we work collaboratively on improving efficiency, reducing costs, and improving quality of service. The initial staffing needs are for Central Pierce Fire & Rescue/Orting Valley, while future needs may be filled for Graham Fire with this recruitment.

Collectively, Central Pierce, Graham, and Orting operate 20 fire stations serving the communities of Parkland, Midland, City of Puyallup, unincorporated North Puyallup, Summit, South Hill, Elk Plain, Spanaway, Graham, Kapowsin, and Orting.
Wages and Benefits
The starting wage for entry-level firefighters is $85,404, and for lateral firefighters, it is $105,384.  

The pay rates listed reflect the 2024 base pay rates for Central Pierce/Orting Valley Fire & Rescue.  
This position offers a generous benefits package, including:

Requirements Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • No specific work experience level is required.
  • Must be 18 years or older at the time of employment.
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid Washington State driver's license and must meet requirements of District's insurance guidelines.
  • No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories within the past seven years.
  • U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to read and write the English language.
  • Must be able to meet the District's adopted minimum physical, medical and psychological standards for Firefighter.
  • Must be CPAT* certified (certification must be less than 12 months old by date of application - provide documentation).
  • Must be able to successfully complete Firefighter Recruit Academy, which includes successful attainment of an EMT certification, and one (1) year probationary period to remain employed.
