Lewis County Fire District #3 serves the communities of Mossyrock, Silver Creek, Ajlune, Klickitat, and Harmony. Governed by a three-member Board of Commissioners, the district operates with a 2024 budget of $705,365 and has three fire stations, offering essential fire protection, Basic Life Support EMS, and rescue operations. Advanced Life Support is available through a partnership with a paramedic agency. Staffed by a full-time Fire Chief, an administrative assistant, and a dedicated team of 19 volunteers, the district’s team responds to a variety of emergencies, with 83% of calls being EMS-related and 17% involving fire or other incidents. Committed to community engagement, the district offers fire safety education, CPR and first aid training, and hosts fundraisers and events that strengthen ties with residents.
 
Reporting to the Board of Commissioners, the Fire Chief is responsible for managing the Fire Operations and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) of the district. The Chief will be involved in policy and budgetary decisions, and responsibilities include strategic leadership, operational management, and community engagement. This role demands a leader with strong interpersonal and communication skills, a strategic mindset, and the ability to navigate complex operational and policy environments. The Fire Chief must possess a broad understanding of fire and EMS operations, the ability to foster effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, and the skills to manage the department’s growth in alignment with the community’s evolving needs.
