Systems Administrator - Systems Infrastructure
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for maintaining, upgrading and providing support for Systems Infrastructures (including, but not limited to servers, storage, testing computer equipment, backing up databases, installing and updating malware software, installing and rebuilding existing servers as well as other processes, server/user software, systems applications business continuity and disaster recovery). 
 
Supervision
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage system infrastructure including, servers, storage, applications, databases, testing computer equipment, backup and backup systems and other infrastructure environment and hardware.
 
Provide technical support for both hardware and software issues that may arise.
 
Monitor the system and respond quickly to any security breaches and/or usability concerns.
 
Backup systems and verify that backups have been completed.
 
Regularly upgrade systems as needed.
 
Assist in integrating new applications and technologies into the current system.
 
Implementation of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery development, testing and in the event of a disaster recovery to the secondary site.
 
Serve as a resource for CPFR’s issues and requests for information technology services and support.
 
Provide high quality end-user support and services while providing excellent Customer Service to all Central Pierce Fire & Rescue employees and partners.
 
Triage customer issues and requests through various tools, troubleshooting and resolving end-use technology issues.
 
Act as a senior resource for the Technical Support Specialists issue resolutions.
 
Provide updates, status and completion information to manager and/or users, via voicemail, email or in-person communications.
 
Assist in research and procurement of computer accessories and supplies.
 
Participate in the after-hours on-call rotation.
 
Provide training and mentoring to other team members in their area of responsibilities and expertise.

          Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Sciences, or related field; and
  • Five (5) or more years of related experience;
    • Hands on experience with Linux, Windows Server, SQL, MS Office, and MS Access
      • HyperV or VMware experience preferred
OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

  • Valid Washington State driver’s license in good standing

          Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
  • Microsoft Server, Hyper-V and NetApp Servers
  • programming and customization techniques for Virtual Servers
  • system analysis and database design methods, including micro applications, systems and database administration
  • client/server computer environment, network operating systems and relational data management concepts
  • terminology, concepts, requirements and techniques of information system and database terminology; and in working with web browsers, image manipulation and databases, and other web software tools
  • server software operation, maintenance and extension (using various programming tools)
  • system analysis and system architecture design, including e-business systems, web design, and systems procedures and programs documentation
 
Skilled in:
  • Dell and Rubrik Server and Storage Maintenance
  • strong organization and communication
  • system analysis and database design methods, including micro applications, systems and database administration
  • communicating technical concerns and solutions to many different people with varying degrees of technical knowledge
  • working with individuals in all divisions and/or departments to help solve their technical issues

Ability to:
  • exercise independent judgment and discretion in the triage of issues and requests of significance while providing high quality end user IT services to all Central Pierce Fire & Rescue employees, partners, and customers, delivering an excellent customer service experience
  • diagnose and resolve complex IT problems in a timely manner
  • be available to respond to urgent requests after hours, when serving as the on-call person
  • gather and analyze information skillfully
  • manage difficult situations, respond promptly to employee IT needs and solicit employee feedback to improve service
  • apply their knowledge of physical and virtual server software operation, maintenance and extension (using various programming tools) to multiple server and systems platforms
