Deputy Chief
The Deputy Fire Chief position is established to provide a highly responsible officer to assist the District Fire Chief in the operations, administration, and supervision of Kittitas County Fire District 7. The position will function as the districts second in command and assume the responsibilities for the day-to-day administration of the District in the absence of the District Fire Chief. Responsible for daily oversight of full-time, career firefighters. Managing daily tasks and training. Performs a variety of technical, administrative, supervisory and hands on work in; planning, organizing, training, fire suppression and emergency medical services.

Requirements Required Qualifications
  1. Operations and maintenance of various types of emergency fire equipment and apparatus in structure, wildland fires, Emergency medical, and Hazardous Material incidents.
  2. Knowledge of Kittitas County Fire District 7’s practices and procedures, state and local laws pertaining to training, suppression, inspections, emergency medical services and fire prevention.
  3. Supervisory and management principals and personnel practices.
  4. Ability to:
  1. Train and supervise subordinate personnel.
  2. Maintain good physical condition necessary to perform duties.
  3. Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  4. Exercise considerable initiative, sound independent judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions.
  5. Supervise and coordinate the work of Fire District operations in fire suppression, rescue, fire prevention, inspections, pre-fire planning and emergency medical services.
  6. Effectively give and receive verbal and written instructions.
  7. Coordinate a variety of administrative staff assignments. Coordinate and implement procedures.
  8. Think clearly and act logically in emergency situations involving stress or danger.
  9. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the District Fire Chief, Board of Commissioners, other employees, supervisors and the public.
  10. Deal with discipline and accident review procedures under stressful conditions for timely, constructive results.
 
 
 
 
 
 
Certifications/Licenses/Registrations:
  • Washington State Firefighter 2 certification (another State certification will be accepted if it meets the training standard).
  • NWCG FF1/IC Type 4 preferred.
  • Ten plus years of Wildland Firefighting experience preferred. 
  • Instructor Level 1 certification preferred.
  • Officer 1 preferred.
  • EVIP Instructor certification or similar or ability to obtain within twelve months of hire.
  • Washington State EMT-B or Nationally Registered EMT required.
  •  ICS 100, 200, 300, 700 certifications at time of appointment.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain by time of hire valid Washington State Driver’s License without record of suspension of revocation in any state.
  • An associate degree in fire science, business management, public administration, or other applicable field from a regionally accredited college or university preferred.
